Every Residency Tells a Story
Keep our fire burning bright with a gift to our annual fund.
At Museum of Glass, something extraordinary happens every day in the Hot Shop.
Through our Visiting Artist Residency Program, artists from around the world step into a space of exploration, collaboration, and discovery—a space where imagination takes center stage. The Hot Shop fosters creativity in its purest form, providing artists the opportunity to define and redefine themselves every day.
Every residency tells a story. Some artists are working with glass for the very first time. Others arrive ready to push the limits of what they thought possible. What unites them is a shared curiosity and hunger to try something new.
Visiting Artist Åsa Sandlund used her time in the Hot Shop to explore ideas of dimension, simplicity, and form. Known for her sculptural approach, Åsa pushed past the boundaries of what had been possible in her own studio and experimented with shape and balance to bring her vision to life in front of a live audience.
"My Museum of Glass residency provided me a reentry to my glass design after 25 years. This was crucial timing as I was asked to do a two-person show at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle in 2027. Working with the Museum team was extremely invigorating and fruitful. The amazing glassblowing and coldworking teams were so skilled and versatile that I was able to work on several different series of forms. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity and support I received, and I believe that investing in Museum of Glass will help cultivate future artistic achievements and enrich our cultural landscape for years to come." - Åsa Sandlund, Museum of Glass Visiting Artist, October 2025.
If you’ve ever stood in the Hot Shop, you know the feeling. The heat. The movement. The moment when something entirely new begins to take shape.
