Visiting Artist Piri Cowie

New Zealand Māori artist Piri Cowie’s artwork is inspired by the broader theme of kaitiakitanga (guardianship) creating connections across cultures. While primarily a painter, Cowie works with a range of mediums including bronze, printmaking, and design.

Cowie’s residency is part of the Museums’ 2019 celebration of Indigenous Arts. In conjunction with two exhibitions grounded in indigenous arts (Preston Singletary: Raven and the Box of Daylight, and Translations: An Exploration of Glass By Northwest Native Carvers), Museum of Glass will invite indigenous artists to explore the creative possibilities of the medium of glass.
