Group Tours

Get the most out of your visit—take a tour. More worthwhile than a typical art museum tour, our friendly docents engage you in an interactive experience of the artwork. Whether you’ve never set foot in a museum or you are a seasoned art collector, our docents will enlighten and challenge you to a richer understanding of the exhibitions.

Public Tours

We offer a daily docent-led gallery tour every day at 1 pm. Additional tours are scheduled based on visitor interest and docent availability. Check at the Visitor Services desk for details on the day of your visit.

Private Tours

What do I get on a tour?

All group tours include:

  • All-day admission to the whole Museum: galleries, live glassmaking demonstrations in the Hot Shop, art studio and theater
  • A discounted group rate
  • A staff member to greet your group and orient you to the Museum
  • Daily Museum schedule and map

Add to your tour with any of the following (based on availability):

  • A docent-led tour of the exhibitions in the galleries
Our Gallery Tours are high-quality, interactive experiences that identify major themes, explore stylistic and aesthetic content and help you relate to the artwork in a personally meaningful way.
  • A docent-led tour of the building architecture and outdoor art installations
Learn more about our intriguing building, the artwork on the plazas and the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. Be prepared to walk outdoors. Of course, this tour’s availability depends on the weather.
  • An opportunity to create an art project
Work with a regional artist on a project that relates to the exhibitions in the galleries. (Note: a $1 materials fee for each participant will be charged for groups wishing to participate in the art activity.)

How much does it cost?

The regular group rate is $10 per person, and a group must be at least 10 people visiting the museum together (the max is 50).

There is a special rate of $8 per person for any tour booked for after 1pm on a weekday. By the way, if you’re coming to the Museum by bus, we’re happy to give the driver free admission.

You may pay for your group when you arrive for the tour. Please make your payment a single transaction with cash, an organization check or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express). Sorry, we can’t accept coupons, vouchers, family memberships or other discounts with group tours.

How do I make a reservation?

Please schedule your tour a minimum of two weeks in advance and have a credit card ready to hold your reservation. If you'd like a docent-led tour (which we highly recommend), know that we offer those based on the availability of our docents—so first reserved, first served.

To make a reservation, contact Elisabeth Emerson: 253.284.4713 or tours@museumofglass.org

After you book the tour, we’ll send you pre-visit materials including an overview of the Museum, driving directions and a confirmation letter. If the confirmation details don't match what you intended to book, give us a call as soon as you can (it helps to have your confirmation number handy).

What if I have to cancel?

Please call Elisabeth Emerson at 253.284.4713 at least 72 hours prior to your visit if you must cancel your tour. We will do everything we can to help you reschedule. “No Shows” will be charged a $30 processing fee to the credit card or purchase order used to hold the reservation.

What about lunch?

Gallucci’s Glass Café offers an excellent bistro-style menu and is happy to work with you to arrange pre-ordered box lunches. Find out more about the café.

What’s the best time for adult groups?

Adult groups are welcome to visit any time the Museum is open, but we recommend scheduling group tours on weekday afternoons. Keep in mind when scheduling that the Hot Shop Team of glassblowers takes a lunch break from approximately 1-2 pm everyday.

What else can I do at the Museum?

Beyond the tour, you might enjoy watching excellent documentary films in the Theater, browsing the Museum Store and, of course, watching artists transform molten glass into art in the Hot Shop.
