CALL TO ARTISTS: Museum of Glass Seeks Entries for Juried Art Auction

Tacoma, Wash. (May 14, 2010)— The Museum of Glass is seeking entries for its first-ever juried art auction. The auction will take place on Saturday, September 11, 2010 during the Museum’s annual Red Hot Party and Auction fundraiser. Entries must be submitted no later than June 2, 2010.

All submissions of artwork must be made primarily of glass and created after January 1, 2005. Pieces will be evaluated based on the artist’s use of glass as an artistic medium, originality, creativity, innovation, narrative expression, and general aesthetic sensibility. The jurors Museum of Glass Curator are Melissa G. Post; Tina Oldnow, curator of modern glass at Corning Glass Museum; and Andrew Page, editor of Glass Quarterly magazine.

Three prizes will be awarded including a Grand Prize of $10,000 and a five-day residency in the Museum’s Hot Shop. A five-day residency and $5,000 will be awarded to the Best New/Emerging Artist, and a $2,500 cash prize will be awarded as a People’s Choice Award determined by Red Hot guests. Contest winners will be announced live at the Red Hot event. All selected works will be included in the Red Hot auction with proceeds benefitting the Museum’s exhibition, education and Hot Shop programs.
