The Education Studio

Interested in creating?

The Education Studio provides opportunities for hands-on engagement with the ideas behind the art exhibited at the Museum. Designed as an interactive, experimental learning space, the Education Studio operates as a thematic extension of the Museum's exhibitions. Each month a new artist is invited to lead the hands-on art activities. Artists present a wide variety of projects and activities to museum visitors, diversified in age from school children through senior citizens.

Studio Hours

  • Weekdays   11 am to 3 pm
  • Saturdays    12 pm to 4 pm
  • Sundays      1 pm to 4 pm

Check out our Calendar to see which artist is in the Studio and what type of project they're making.

Young visitors are always invited to submit a drawing to our Kids Design Glass program which just might be selected to be created into a glass sculpture by our Hot Shop team.

What about lunch?

If you plan to be at the Museum at lunch time, we are happy to provide a stanchioned area for your class to enjoy lunch inside during the colder, wetter days. On more pleasant days, teachers and students enjoy eating outside on the Museum’s esplanade. Children are welcome to bring a sack lunch or purchase a boxed lunch from the Museum Café. For information about ordering boxed lunches, please contact the Museum Café at 253.627.2555.

November 2008 Communal Yarn Spider Web Project

Throughout the month of November 2008, Museum visitors helped resident artist Jasmine Zimmerman create a yarn spider web in the Studio. Over the course of the installation, countless rolls of yarn were woven, strung and tossed to fashion an impressive web that began as a fragile frame and ended in a massive display of artistic expression shared by our visitors.
